Southern, Sweet & Sassy Coffee is passionate about connecting military families one cup at a time, and every month we proudly give back to the military community through our #coffeeforacause initiative. This March, we are honored to feature Wounded Warrior Project.

Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) started in 2003 as a small effort to provide care and comfort items to the first wounded service members coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan. Since then, Wounded Warrior Project has adapted to meet the changing needs of these warriors post-service. Today, they work to improve the lives of millions of warriors and their families. Wounded Warrior Project now offers direct programs in mental health, career counseling, and long-term rehabilitative care, as well as advocating directly on the behalf of veterans and service members.

Who is Eligible?

WWP provides support and services to Veterans and service members who were in the military on or after September 11th, 2001. These warriors must also have suffered a physical or mental injury, illness or wound during or after service.

Why the WWP Mission is Important

Many brave men and women who served in recent military conflicts sustained injuries during their service or left with lasting invisible wounds like post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, or debilitating brain trauma. With the support of donors and team members, Wounded Warrior Project prioritizes those needs and empowers warriors to begin their personal journey to recovery.

 Purpose

With a focus on those who served post-9/11, Wounded Warrior Project aims to foster the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in our nation’s history.

WWP’s priority is to serve the warriors most in need—and their families—by individually assessing their challenges and providing critical services to help improve their quality of life. The WWP impact is expanded through collaboration and program partnerships with a variety of non-profit, for-profit and government agencies.

 Programs

Since every warrior has unique needs and goals, Wounded Warrior Project offers a variety of programs to help. Here are just a few:

  • Adaptive Sports – single and multi-day clinics that empower warriors to access their higher potential through modified athletic opportunities designed for their individual needs.
  • Government Affairs – WWP provides direct advocacy in Washington, DC; fighting for Veterans on issues that matter the most. Current priorities include women Veterans, toxic exposures, caregivers, whole health and wellness, and the Global War on Terrorism Memorial.
  • Independence Program – Designed for post-9/11 Veterans or service members with modest to severe brain injury, spinal cord injury or neurological conditions that significantly impact daily living.
  • Project Odyssey® - a no cost, 12 week mental health program for Veterans that uses adventure-based learning to help warriors with PTSD, anxiety and depression manage and overcome their visible wounds, enhance resiliency, and empower them to live productive, fulfilling lives. Warriors can attend an all-male, all-female, co-ed, family or couples program. These programs include a five day mental health retreat.
